Same etymon. Diapnoicus, Diaphoreticus, (F.) Diaphoretique. A medicine which excites diaphoresis. Diaphoretics are very uncertain as a class. The following is a list of the most reputed:- Ammoniae Acetatis Liquor; Ammonias Carbonas; Antimonialis pulvis; Antimonii et Potasssae Tartras; Antimonii Sulphuretum praecipitatum; Asclepias tuberosa, Camphora; Contrayerva Dulcamara; Eupatorium perfoliatum; Guaiaci Lignum; Guaiacum; Ipecacuanha; Mezereum; Opium, and its active principle Morphia; Sarsaparilla; Sassafras; Serpentaria; Spiritus AEtheris Nitrici; Sulphur; Xanthoxylum; Caloric; Exercise, (active;) and Friction. The epithet Diaphoretic has also been given, by some, to continued fever, accompanied with constant perspiration.
