Definition of jacksnipe :
1. A small American sandpiper ( Tringa maculata); - called also pectoral sandpiper, and grass snipe.
2. A small European snipe ( Limnocryptes gallinula); - called also judcock, jedcock, juddock, jed, and half snipe.
