Definition of pettishness:
- Petulance; peevishness. Note.— That " pet, ill- humour," and " pet, a fondling," have a common origin, will not appear inconsistent, when it is considered that " to pet a child" is " to indulge it in its pets or fits of ill- humour." There is an obvious connection with F. petit, a little one, but the meanings cannot now be separated.
