The act by which a canal or reservoir throws back substances accumulated in it. Mitral regurgitation, for example, means the reflux of blood through the left auriculo-ventricular opening, during the contraction of the left ventricle. Regurgitation is also applied to the purking or possetting of infants; and to the rising of solids or fluids into the mouth in the adult, - from re, and gorge, (gurges), 'the throat.' (F.) Rapport.
