A Dutch playwright; born at The Hague, Sept. 9, 1833. He was one of the most celebrated Netherland actors of his time, and wrote plays remarkable for character-drawing and very successful. Among them are: "The Old Cashier" (1875); "Manus" (1878); "Anne Mie" (1878), which won the first prize in an international competition and was acted in London.
