An American educator and miscellaneous writer; born in Holliston, Mass., Dec. 28, 1831; died in Cambridge, Mass., Dec. 27, 1870. From 1865 until his death he was professor of modern languages at Harvard. His contributions appeared in the Atlantic Monthly and other periodicals. "War Poems" was published in 1867, and "Stella" in 1868.
