A German poet and novelist; born in London, Sept. 18, 1857. Of his numerous works, especially noticeable were: "Salvator Rosa" (1880), a novel; "Children of the Kingdom" (1883), "a novel cycle"; "Selected Poems" (1883); "Waiblinger" (1886), a modern tragedy; "The Judge of Men" (1888), a comedy; the dramas "Gordon Pasha" and "Eginhard and Emma"; and "What did Jesus Teach?\"
