An English novelist; born near Wether by, Yorkshire, March 3, 1825; died at Eastbourne, March 3, 1879. Beginning with books for children, she made her reputation with stories of Irish life. She was a prolific writer and very popular in her day, "Castle Daly" (1875) being her best work. Her letters were published in 1883.
