Ord. Santalaceae. Sex. Syst. Tetrandria Monogynia. The virtues of the wood of the white saunders reside in a volatile oil and resinous principle. The odour is fragrant, and resembles a mixture of ambergris and roses. It has been used as a stimulant and sudorific, but it is not now employed. The saunders woods are called, collectively, in French, Santaux.
