Ord. Sapindaceae. The name of the plant that affords the Soap Nuts, Saponariae Nuclae, Baccae Bermudenses. Soap-berries. A spherical fruit about the size of a cherry, the cortical part of which is yellow, glossy, and so transparent as to show the spherical black nut that rattles within, and includes a white kernel. The cortical part of this fruit, which has similar effects with soap in washing, has been recommended in chlorosis, and as a stomachic and deobstruent.
