An American scholar and author; born in Northumberland, N. Y., in 1802; died in Schenectady, N. Y., May 11, 1877. Was professor of Greek in the University of New York in 1838, and later of Oriental literature in Union College. He published many volumes. Among these are: "The Six Days of Creation" (1855); "Heroic Periods in a Nation's History" (1866); "The Light by which We See Light" (1875); and many addresses and reviews.

- An inorganic water-soluble platinum complex. After undergoing hydrolysis, it reacts DNA produce both intra interstrand crosslinks. These crosslinks appear to impair replication and transcription of DNA. The cytotoxicity cisplatin correlates with cellular arrest in G2 phase cell cycle.
