A French litterateur and translator; born Jan. 4, 1832; died at Paris, Oct. 26, 1888. He was attached to the Lyceum of Versailles, and at Loches; contributed stories to the European Review, the Revue des Deux Mondes, Paris Illustre, and other French periodicals. Among his works are: "Brave Men" (1874), crowned by the Academy; "Uncle Placide" (1878); "The Captain's Niece"; "Grandfather" (1880), crowned by the Academy; "The Gaudry Family" (1884); "The Second Violin" (1887); and translations.
