Indian Physic, Western Dropwort, Indian Hippo, Ipecac, Bowman's root, Meadow sweet, Beaumont root, (F.) Gillenie. Ord. Rosaceae. Sex. Syst. Icosandria Pentagynia. The root of this shrub, and of G. stipulacea- Gillenia, (Ph. U. S.) - which grows plentifully in the United States, is a safe and efficacious emetic, in the dose of about 30 grains. It resembles ipecacuanha in its properties.
