A celebrated philosopher; born at Amsterdam, of Portuguese-Jewish parents, Nov. 23, 1632; died at The Hague, Feb. 21, 1677. He is author of a "Tractate on God and Man and Man's Felicity" (1655); "Theologico-Political Tractate" (1670); "Ethics Demonstrated Geometrically". The latter is his greatest work; it was not published till after his death.
