A Greek rhetorician and sophist; born in the island of Lemnos between 170 and 180 A. D.; died about 250. Of his writings five are extant: viz., "Life of Apollonius of Tyana", the famous religious impostor and thaumaturge; "Lives of the Sophists"; "Heroics"; "Images"; and "Epistles".
