This word is used by the ancients somewhat vaguely. It meant an affection in which parts, previously in contact, are separated from each other by a fluid collected between them. The moderns regard it as synonymous with Abscess. Some, even of the moderns, have applied it to any watery tumour, and even to tumours in general.
