A form of diarrhea, increased acute or chronic, produced by increased vascularity of the entire intestinal mucous membrane, the same cause also acting to obstruct the discharge of fluids through the skin, characterized by febrile reaction and mucous, mucopurulent, or mucosanguineous evacuations. In infants it constitutes a common form of so-called cholera infantum.
