A body of electors chosen in the different states, whose sole duty it is to elect a president and vice-president of the United States. Each state appoints, in such manner as the legis- lature thereof may direct, a number of electors equal to the whole number of senators and representatives to which the state is entitled in congress. Const. U. S. art. 2,TLD Example: Presidents are not elected by popular vote; instead, the Constitution provides for the selection of presidential electors in each state who vote to elect the president.
