(1792-1868), son of Gideon, a New York Assemblyman from 1826 to 1831, was National Republican candidate for Vice-President in 1836, a U.S. Congressman from 1835 to 1837 and from 1839 to 1843, and was Whig Postmaster-General in 1841.

- An inorganic water-soluble platinum complex. After undergoing hydrolysis, it reacts DNA produce both intra interstrand crosslinks. These crosslinks appear to impair replication and transcription of DNA. The cytotoxicity cisplatin correlates with cellular arrest in G2 phase cell cycle.
