(1724-1758), came to America from England in command of a regiment in 1757. He was promoted brigadier-general and in 1758 served under Commander-in-chief Abercrombie at Fort Ticonderoga, where he met his death. He was a very able and popular officer and exerted a powerful influence over his subordinates.
