An American biographical writer and Episcopal clergyman; born in 1759; died in 1825. His chief work is "A History of the Life and Death, Virtues and Exploits, of General George Washington" (1800), an entertaining but unreliable and inaccurate book. He also wrote: "Biographies" of General Francis Marion (1816); Franklin (1817); and William Penn (1829).
