[Gr.] Such as iron, nickel, manganese, etc. A bar of either of these substances tends to place itself in a direction parallel to that of a magnet in its neighbourhood. The direction of their magnetization is the same as that of the field in which they are placed. Other bodies, as bismuth, zinc, etc., have the direction of their magnetization opposite to that of the field ; these are Diamagnetic bodies.
