A Canadian poet and prose-writer, sister of Agnes Strickland; born in Reydon Hall, Suffolk, England, Dec. 6, 1803; died in Toronto, Canada, April 8, 1885. She wrote: "Enthusiasm and Other Poems" (1829); "Roughing it in the Bush, or Life in Canada" (2 vols., 1852); "Matrimonial Speculations" (1854); and "The Monctons" (2 vols., 1856).
