A Spanish poet and dramatist; born at Orotava, island of Teneriffe, 1750; died in Madrid, 1791. His chief works are an excellent didactic poem, "Music" (1780); and "Literary Fables" (1782), considered the best fables in the Spanish language. He also wrote the first regular comedies in Spanish, the best being "The Spoiled Child" and "The Ill-Bred Young Lady"; besides publishing Spanish translations of French plays and some of the Latin poets.

- An inorganic water-soluble platinum complex. After undergoing hydrolysis, it reacts DNA produce both intra interstrand crosslinks. These crosslinks appear to impair replication and transcription of DNA. The cytotoxicity cisplatin correlates with cellular arrest in G2 phase cell cycle.
