An English poet, wife of Robert Southey; born at Lymington, Hampshire, Dec. 6, 1786; died there, July 20, 1854. A collection of her poems published in 1820 brought her to the notice of the world of letters. "The Pauper's Death-Bed" is well known. She is the author of "Ellen Fitz-Arthur", a poem (1820); "The Widow's Tale, and Other Poems" (1822); "The Birthday" (1836); "Tales of the Factories", in verse (1847).
