[Gr.] (Myth.) A race of gigantic beings who are represented in the Odyssey as shepherds, having only one eye in the midst of their forehead. Such was Polyphemus, from whom Ulysses made his escape. They are described also as forging the thunderbolts of Jupiter, and they are supposed to have raised the buildings called Cyclopean.
