A French dramatist and novelist; born 1806; died 1854. He is celebrated as the author of "An Attic Philosopher" (1850). His other works include: "The Last Bretons" (1836); "Travels in Finisterre"; "The Confessions of a Workman"; "Pierre and Jean"; "The Greased Pole"; "Man and Money"; etc. His plays include "Henri Hamelin" and "Uncle Baptiste".
