An alkaloid, C16H21NO3, derived from atropine. It or its hydrobromide (Homatropinae hydrobromidum, B. P., Homatropinum hydrobromicum, G. P.), C16H21NO3. HBr, in 2 to 3 per cent. solution, causes mydriasis and paralysis of accommodation for from 24 to 36 hours, and is used in examining the interior of the eye and determining its refraction. Lamellae homatropinae, B. P., contain each 0.01 gr.
