A Cuban author; born in Havana in 1808; died there in 1887. He abandoned law for literature. The first collection of his poems was published at Havana in 1833, a second in 1837, and a third in 1838. He also published: "Elvira de Oquendo"; "The Two Bridegrooms", a comedy (1848); "Autumn Flowers", a collection of poems (1849); "Cuban Romances" (1856); "Napoleon in Berlin", a tragedy (1860); and "Flowers of Winter", poems (1882).
