The first bone of the first row of the carpus. The upper surface is convex, and articulated with the radius. The under and outer surfaces are also convex,- to be articulated with the trapezium and trapezoides. Between the upper and under cartilaginous surfaces there is a rough fossa for the insertion of the capsular ligament. The anterior and inner surface has an oval cavity, where it is articulated with the os magnum, which gives name to the bone. There is a process on the outer end of the hone, for the attachment of part of the anterior transverse ligament of the wrist.
