A distinguished Spanish poet; born at Triana, near Seville, Oct. 15, 1775; died there, Oct. 5, 1848 He was one of the best lyric poets of his time in Spain, with a rich fancy, deep censibility, and a philosophic mind. His "Poems" were published in 2 vols. (2d ed. 1837). He wrote a "Course of Universal History", an adaptation of Segur's work; and "Literary and Critical Essays" (2 vols., 1884).
