The prolongation of the integuments of the penis, which covers the glans. The prepuce is composed of two membranous layers: one external or cutaneous; the other internal or mucous, separated by areolar membrane. The mucous membrane lines the inner surface of the cutaneous layer till beyond the glans, when it is reflected over the latter; forming, behind the corona, a small cul-de-sac above the corpora cavernosa, which is interrupted by a triangular duplicature of the mucous membrane, called the fraenum, fixed in the furrow at the inferior part of the glans, and terminating at a little distance from the orifice of the urethra. The clitoris is covered by a semilunar fold formed by a continuation of the skin of the labia. It is called Praepu’tium clitor'idis.
